Wellbeing at LCIS
At LCIS, the wellbeing of each student is valued and supported. Our collaborative community of students, faculty and staff, and parents are active participants in a vibrant school culture that embraces academics, service learning, athletics, and the arts.
Developing wellbeing means supporting the whole child, not only in academic achievement but in their cognitive, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Wellbeing at LCIS includes a feeling of belonging, sense of purpose, achievement and success. We follow the PERMAV model and use the Flourish system to help students assess and set wellbeing goals.
Growing evidence shows that student wellbeing is an integral part of student success.
Wellbeing is the responsibility of all members of our school community; however, a few key staff members play a central role in coordinating wellbeing structures and programmes at LCIS.
Classroom teachers, advisors and Grade Level Leaders work together to teach effective approaches to learning and to address well-being topics with students. They plan for weekly advisory sessions as well as daily homeroom sessions that are based on wellbeing themes such as nutrition, physical fitness, sleep, kindness and relationships, positivity, engagement, achievement, transitions, substance abuse awareness and equity, as well as the 10 character attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
LCIS maintains the highest international standards for child protection and is committed to safeguarding student wellbeing by ensuring that all members of the community help keep young people safe. All staff and a representative of the Board receive annual training in child protection and safeguarding. Designated Safeguarding Leads manage child protection on each campus.
