Students have many opportunities to participate in school life. At each school level, students are involved in outstanding athletics, arts, service and co-curricular programmes.

The school ensures that each student encounters valuable experiences in all these areas, providing a solid foundation for life beyond LCIS.

They can also enrol in any of a large number of activities, from community service, steel band, choir, drama productions, Model United Nations, Rotary Interact Club to both competitive and social activities in sports. International events and celebrations are organised for both students and parents, highlighting different aspects of diverse cultures, as well as field trips exploring the culture of The Bahamas.

Summer Camps at LCIS

Every summer, LCIS offers a variety of exciting experiences, including enrichment, athletic and performing arts programmes.

Recent summer programmes have included expert football (soccer) training with coaches from England's Premiere League, a musical performance camp, dance training with a coach from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, and much more.

SPORTS

Students have the opportunity to explore athletics in a variety of formats at the school including co-curriculars, interscholastic leagues, club training and national or international competitions. We take full advantage of our beautiful local environment with year-round outdoor tennis, SCUBA, sailing and kayaking from the marina across the street.

ARTS

TRAVEL

Learning does not just happen in the classroom at LCIS. We believe strongly in the transformational experiences our field trips offer. Off-island, overnight trips are built into the curriculum for grades 5-12. In addition, optional travel experiences for sports, cultural experiences, or leadership opportunities exist at the secondary school.

SERVICE

Community service is woven through the curriculum and expectations of students from the earliest years at LCIS. Beginning in the Early Learning Centre and continuing through grade 5, students complete one class service project per year. In secondary school, service becomes more personal and students continue to serve the community and school through various required and optional projects.

PTA

All teachers and parents are members of the Parent Teacher Association. The PTA hosts community building activities for students and families through various events and fundraisers each year. All proceeds go back to making the lives of students and teachers even better.

Junkanoo

This centuries-old mainstay of Bahamian culture is a point of great pride for the LCIS community as evidenced by the fact that we have won in every division in two of the last three parades we have participated in. The art of Junkanoo is taught through the co-curricular and regular school programmes and it takes the whole community to create a successful parade.

House System

Students of all ages are divided into three houses representing land features in the Lyford Cay Area. Clifton, Lightbourne and Simms compete in school-wide activities such as sports day, bake-sales, read-a-thons to generate fun and school spirit.

Advisory

The programme provides every student with an advisor who supervises academic progress, monitors social development and attends to questions and concerns. Advisees meet in a small group daily for 10 minutes and in extended sessions on Fridays. The advisor explores topics such as relationships, goal setting, community life and college readiness.

Steam

From creative and critical thinking in the curriculum to Day of Code activities, Robotics, and Hack-a-thons, the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programme at LCIS is infused through the everyday learning, co-curricular and elective programmes.

Tuck Shop

Meals and snacks are available from 7am to 5pm at the school’s onsite cafe. With over 10 options available for lunch each day, students of all ages will find something nutritious and appealing to eat if they choose not to pack their lunch.

Eco Club

The Eco-Schools programme is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and the Green Flag is an international symbol of excellence in environmental education and practice. LCIS students have successfully recertified the school as a leader in environmental practices three times.

Mascot

LC the Sea Dragon is the beloved mascot of our school and sports teams. She can be seen at most school events and birthday parties with LC are a prized auction item at the Annual Gala.

Wellness

The school caters to the healthy well being of the entire person. Whether it is through all-day care at the Nurse’s Office, a social-emotional curriculum for advisory, drop-in sessions with the school counselor or school-wide mindfulness practices, students and parents can be assured that the comprehensive health and safety of their children is the school’s utmost priority.

Model United Nations

High School students can participate in this debate-related elective in the fall to conduct research on international relations issues and hone their oration skills. The class culminates in a trip to Montreal to compete against other international schools in a high-stakes competition.

Annie

This musical brought together student performers from elementary to secondary school. Students in the ensemble honed their acting, singing and dance skills culminating in a three-night sold out performance.
